CSL is also joining in the Android tablet crowd with their CSL MI700.

The tablet business is getting widespread after Apple’s runaway success with the launch of their iPad. More and more company are churning out their own version of the tablet, be it Android or Windows 7 based. CSL of Malaysia is also joining in the fun, as they prepare to release a tablet into the local market this coming September. Named CSL MI700, the retail price for the tablet is still not available yet, but the gist of the specs is.

The CSL MI700 is using a 7-inch capacitive TFT display panel, with 16M colours. Measuring at 179.4mm (H) x 110mm (W) x 11.5mm (T), the tablet will have built-in G-sensor, E-compass sensor, and Ambient light sensor. The heart of the tablet is a Qualcomm MSM7227, which is an ARM-based 32bit processer running at 600MHz. Not that bad, but hopefully that’ll do. The tablet will have 512MB of ROM and 512MB of RAM.

Now the unique thing about this tablet is that it has a SIM slot for calling out. Yeah, an oversize smartphone it is. The tablet will support 3G quad band and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA. Look decent to be an iPad 3G competitor. It’ll support 7.2Mbps HSDPA too. The CSL MI700 will be running on Android 2.1 (Éclair), but will be upgraded to Android 2.2 (Froyo) soon after it’s released.

Other specs that you’ll find would be the 3-Megapixel camera with autofocus at the back, as well as a VGA front camera. This thing is getting rather ‘standard’ on most of the upcoming tablets. Anyway, there’s also MapKing GPS Navigator integrated into the tablet, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, and one USB 2.0 interface. The tablet will support AAC LC/LTP, HE-AACv1 (AAC+) and HE-AACv2 (enhanced AAC+) audio formats, besides H.263, H.264 AVC and MPEG-4 SP video files
